Chad Baker is a young upstart playwright currently studying sociology at DePaul University. His play Brothers Don’t Say It was produced in 2007 by The Blank Theatre Company in Hollywood, CA. Brothers Don’t Say It was also selected for the 2007 Playworks program at the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, NE. This same play was also published in Dramatics magazine.
He was awarded the Educational Theatre Association’s 2007 playwriting scholarship. His one-act comedy Spin Alley was his second play produced at the Blank Theatre Company, and was also named a finalist in the Mclaren Comedy Contest in Midland, TX and was performed in North Carolina by the South of Broadway Theatre Company. Chad’s ten minute play, At a Crosswalk, a finalist in the 2008 Oxford Ten Minute Play Contest, was produced at the Actor's Theatre of Santa Cruz in January of this year. His play, A Snake that Eats Itself, received a staged reading by the Highwire Theatre Company in New York, NY in 2008 as a finalist for their Testing the Line Competition.
A Snake that Eats Itself was also awarded first place in the Community Theatre Association of Michigan's 2008 competition. This same play was named a finalist for the Dayton Playhouse's 2009 Futurefest competition, and will be performed there this summer.
